Telegram Integration

Send backup alerts to a Telegram bot, group, or channel.

Creating a Telegram Bot

  1. Open Telegram and search for @BotFather
  2. Send /newbot
  3. Choose a name (e.g., "Acme Backup Alerts")
  4. Choose a username (e.g., acme_backup_bot)
  5. BotFather will send you the bot token — save it

Setting Up the Integration

  1. Go to Monitoring → Channels → Add Channel → Telegram
  2. Enter your Bot Token
  3. Enter your Chat ID (see below)
  4. Click Test to verify
  5. Click Save

Finding Your Chat ID

Personal Chat

  1. Start a conversation with your bot by messaging it
  2. Visit: https://api.telegram.org/bot<YOUR_TOKEN>/getUpdates
  3. Look for "chat": {"id": 123456789} in the response
  4. That number is your Chat ID

Group Chat

  1. Add your bot to the group
  2. Send a message in the group
  3. Visit the getUpdates URL above
  4. Look for the "chat" object with "type": "group" — the ID is typically negative (e.g., -987654321)

Telegram Channel

  1. Add your bot as an administrator of the channel
  2. Send a test message to the channel
  3. Find the Chat ID via getUpdates — it starts with -100 for public channels

Message Format

Configuring Alert Types

After adding the Telegram channel, configure which alerts it receives:

  1. Go to Monitoring → Alert Rules
  2. For each rule, click Edit → add Telegram as a notification channel

Or configure it globally:

  • Go to Monitoring → Channels → [Your Telegram Channel]
  • Toggle which event types trigger notifications

Multiple Chats

You can add multiple Telegram channels in jokowipe.id — one for critical alerts, another for daily summaries, etc.

Testing

Click Send Test Message in the channel settings:

👋 Test from jokowipe.id

This is a test notification from your Telegram integration.
If you received this, your integration is working correctly.

Troubleshooting

Bot Not Receiving Messages

  • Ensure the bot was started (send /start to the bot in a private chat)
  • For groups: ensure the bot was added as a member
  • Check the Chat ID is correct — negative IDs for groups/channels

Messages Not Delivered

  • Check the Bot Token hasn't been revoked (regenerate via BotFather if needed)
  • Visit the getUpdates URL to verify the bot can receive events
